19 November 2021 | Sukkur, Sindh – A key result area of LEAD for SDGs programme is to improve knowledge and information on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to create awareness among the masses. In this regard, LEAD for SDGs programme in collaboration with its partner Local Council Association, Sindh (LCAS), organized an orientation session at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) University, Sukkur to raise awareness of Women Development Committee (WDC) members on SDGs. Most of the participants were elected local government councilors who belong to different districts of Sindh province.

The objective of this session was to improve the knowledge and understating of WDC members on SDGs and its localization in Sindh Province.  The WDC was established in July 2020 under the umbrella of LCAS and since then, working as its statutory committee. This committee is meant to enhance the participation of women in the local government and to promote the leadership skills among women councilors. The women members of WDC play an essential role in the development and execution of local government policies in Sindh.

Ms. Fiza Pitafi, Provincial Coordinator LCAS, presented an overview of the SDGs and also threw light on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) while differentiating between the two. The presentation also included the key points of Sindh’s Provincial SDGs framework and prioritized SDGs of Sindh province.

All the members of WDC appreciated the contributions of LEAD for SDGs programme towards raising awareness on SDGs and ensuring localization of SDGs in the province. Moreover, WDC also committed to organize similar awareness sessions for their peers in the coming days and spread the information in their communities as well.
