LEAD4SDGs OBSERVING WORLD DAY AGAINST CHILD LABOUR

,

Local Empowerment, Advocacy and Development for SDGs localisation in Pakistan programme, with the support of the UCLG ASPAC and the European Union observing the World Day against Child Labour.

The term “child labour” is often defined as work that deprives children of their childhood, their potential, and their dignity, which is harmful to physical-mental development. LEAD4SDGs pledged to reduce child labour through mainstreaming SDGs in local development processes.

The human rights commission of Pakistan (Report 2010) considers poverty, social attitudes, large family size and low literacy rate as basic reasons for child labour in Pakistan. Factories are now registered with provincial social security programs that offer free school facilities for workers and free hospital treatment. Child labour is a social crime and it is child abuse.

In 2019, Pakistan made a moderate advancement in efforts to eliminate the worst forms of child labour. Punjab Province adopted the Punjab Domestic Workers Act of 2019, which prohibits children under age 15 from working in any domestic service capacity. Under this programme, we are willing to deliver with the policymakers.
